Western burgers made their way to India and received an upgrade with a twist on what a burger can truly become! My take on the Indian Spiced Burger Recipe brings a plethora of yummy spices together to give you an explosion of flavor that will really upgrade your standard burger!

The possibilities are endless when you take the traditional spices like ginger, garlic, coriander, cumin, garam masala, turmeric, mustard seeds and top it with a lil’something like mint chutney… is your mouth watering yet?! Cause mine is!

Lamb, beef, or veggie style burgers, it’s truly up to you based on what works for your eating style because it really becomes all about the spices. These burgers are a sure fire way to get your family excited and coming back for seconds!

For this Indian Spiced Burger Recipe I created I chose specific spices that I love using together. I really wanted to talk about the cassava flour and turmeric real quick because theses spices have great health and nutritional benefits!

Cassava flour is a great choice because it is grain-free which being Paleo is essential. Cassava is a root vegetable, and the flour is just the dried and ground plant, making it a whole-vegetable food! YES! Cassava flour is also a great choice for the fact it’s low in sodium (salt), sugar and fat, plus depending on the brand it’s free from refined carbs and synthetic ingredients. It has a neutral flavor and doesn’t have a grainy or gritty texture – instead it’s a nice powder and soft; this translates to being easy to cook and bake with. (My very favorite brand is Otto’s Cassava flour! Fun fact- I did the package design for their bag!)

One thing to be aware of, cassava flour has a higher carbohydrate profile than its counter part, such as the sweet potato. Just be aware that if you’re looking for a more low carb diet watch your intake to not have insulin spikes. This recipe doesn’t have much but I wanted to let you know that moderation is key.

Now for magical Turmeric which contains major health benefits for your body and brain! It is a scientific fact that turmeric contains compounds with medicinal properties called curcuminoids. This provides powerful anti-inflammatory effects and a strong antioxidant. It’s also proven that eating turmeric improves brain function and can lower the rest of brain diseases, such as Alzheimers and depression.

Not only does it have these health benefits, it also tastes pretty darn good It has that beautiful yellow/orange color that you see in curry dishes. Heck you can even having it in your coffee, smoothie, or tea. It’s such versatile spice you can even use it as a face mask with just water.

This recipe is one of my favorites because it’s truly simple, delicious, and it beats the boring traditional American burger you can get anywhere!

Enjoy and let me know in the comments how your burgers turn out! Let me know if you chose to do something different and spice things up a bit 😉
