If participating in a Whole30 program has you thinking you are stuck drinking water for the next 30 days, think again. Whole30 tea is completely an option for you! Being from the South, I’m a HUGE fan of iced tea. So you know I had to compile a list for you of my favorite Whole30 iced tea brands (and all other forms of tea, too!). First, let’s get a big question out of the way… 

Is Tea allowed on Whole30?

Yes! There are certain types of teas that are allowed on Whole30- the biggest factor is they have to be completely unsweetened- no natural or artificial sweeteners allowed. See our extensive lists below for the Whole30 Approved Teas and Whole30 Compliant Teas- you’ll definitely find one you love!

Bottled, Loose-Leaf, and Bagged Teas:

Teas can come in a variety of ways… Most loose-leaf and bagged teas are Whole30 compliant as most of them simply contain the tea leaves and botanical elements (orange peel, bergamot, etc). All standard types of teas (black tea, green tea, and herbal teas) are Whole30 compliant. The biggest thing you want to look out for in tea bags is sweeteners. No natural or artificial sweeteners are allowed on the Whole30. You also want to check the label on Herbal Teas for soy lecithin, rice flour, stevia, or any added sweeteners. The same rules apply to loose-leaf teas, those are much less likely to hany any added sweeteners. 

I have found that I am a proponent of loose-leaf tea for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s so much less waste. A LOT of tea bags are actually made of plastic! Sheesh, what isn’t these days, right? Since I don’t like to have heated plastic, loose-leaf tea is a great alternative. I put mine in these precious leaf-shaped silicone tea infusers: snag them here. 

Whole30 bottled or canned teas are where it gets trickier… The vast majority of bottled or canned teas are sweetened. For that reason, we’ve compiled different lists for you of the different types of bottled teas that are Whole30 Approved and Whole30 compliant below.
